Western Halter – Utility Classes (previously called
Ranch Horse Conformation)
"Ranch Horse Conformation" classes have been renamed Western Halter. They
will remain Utility Classes, open to all horses. Individual classes will
continue to be held for Mares, Geldings, and Stallions.
Western Halter Class Description:
Horses showing in the Western Halter classes shall be shown in hand in a
western style halter. Silver shall not count over a plain stable halter. Horses
shall be judged on correct conformation with the emphasis being on form to
function. The judge may not discriminate for or against muscling, but rather
look for a total picture, emphasizing balance and structural correctness. Points
will count for Show and Circuit Overall Points and Circuit Achievement Points
only. ”Western Halter" entries are welcome to also show in their appropriate
class within the Halter Division.
Working Western Division – Added Class:
Performance/Conformation Combination Class
Performance/Conformation Combination Class Description:
To be judged 25% on performance, 75% on conformation
- Horses and riders will walk and then jog one way of the ring (counter
clockwise) – under saddle.
- Horses and riders will then line up along the rail at the ring steward,
facing the judge. Riders dismount and remove the saddle/saddle pad for
conformation inspection. Bridles are not removed.
- One assistant per horse/rider unit will be allowed to enter the ring to
assist with saddle removal, however it is not mandatory. Tack may be placed
on the fence, or saddle racks may be brought in.
- The assistant is allowed to switch places with the rider and handle the
horse for the remainder of the class (conformation inspection.)
- All persons not handling the horse for inspection are dismissed.
- Horses will be judged for conformation and working condition as follows
(sweat and saddle marks will not be penalized):
Beginning with the first horse in line, the judge will call each horse out
individually to be judged.
Horse and handler will walk to judge, set up for inspection, then jog away
from the judge.
As the first horse leaves the line to be judged the remaining horses move
up. The horse being judged goes to the back of the line.
- Once all horses have been inspected, assistants are allowed back in the
ring to assist with tack.
Training Classes
Classes titled "Training Class" will not count for any Show High Points or
Circuit Points.
Circuit Nominations
All circuit horses will be assigned a back number. Circuit horses will
be required to show under this number in order for points to be tracked and
counted. Numbers will be provided by ECOSC. Please indicate your back number of
choice on the Circuit Nomination Form; every attempt will be made to assign the
number requested. If no number is requested, ECOSC will assign one.
